The Harvard Medical School Center for Bioethics was launched to ensure that values and ethics are always part of medical training, laboratory and clinical research, and professional education. The Center is designed as a platform for integrating ethics and scientific discovery more closely than ever before, generating new forms of collaboration among students, bench scientists, clinical researchers, clinicians, practicing bioethicists, academic philosophers, historians of medicine, humanities scholars and others able to bring their disciplinary perspectives to bear on the ethical challenges posed by present and future biomedical advances.
Aims of the Center:
Teach ethics to medical students across the 4-year curriculum
Support and strengthen the ethics programs at HMS teaching hospitals and affiliated facilities
Prepare the next generation of practitioners and leaders in bioethics
Address contemporary ethical issues in the biosciences and health care
Engage the public in understanding and addressing ethical aspects of health care and new biotechnologies
The Center for Bioethics Coordinator is essential to the execution of our mission. The Center has many events, and programs and this position will assist or have direct responsibility for event organization, including making travel arrangements, processing expenditures, invoice processing and tracking financial payments. These responsibilities involve using software such as HCOM, Vendor Set-up, Concur, OBI, Certain Software. This role will make travel arrangements, organize and publicize educational programs and events, processes financial transactions, work with event registration software.
The Program Coordinator works closely with and reports directly to the Program and Finance Administrator following established policies and procedures and will work with minimal supervision in an environment of multiple priorities which require anticipation and problem-solving. Must work well with other staff to update and maintain, organize the programming of the center and ensure the financial processes run smoothly. This position assists in the daily functioning of the center and notifies the Program and Finance administrator of situations, questions, concerns. The position requires the ability to be confidential, but also be able to receive feedback with an eye toward ongoing improvement as a team member. A sense of humor, while not required, is positively encouraged.
This position serves as the primary contact for the Fellowship in Bioethics Program and the HMS Responsible Conduct in Research Program. For the Fellowship, the incumbent manages the recruiting and admission processes, including marketing, and instructs applications in the admission processes with little oversight. Will assist applicants with VISA needs, will work with AR to set up invoicing, financial certification for international students. Maintains database for programs, sets the program up in canvas and works closely with the Director to schedule sessions, rooms, agenda, and guest speakers. For the Responsible Conduct in Research, the incumbent will organize this NIH required a training program for researchers in quad based laboratories; Some of the duties are: maintaining and updating data, tracking course attendance, provide students with course reports, send announcements, make room reservations, and issues faculty invitations. For both programs, the incumbent will send surveys for the program to track the effectiveness of educational methods. There will be occasional travel for recruitment purposes
