Miami Cancer Institute (MCI), Baptist Health South Florida (BHSF) is looking to hire a full-time neuro-oncologist to join a growing multi-disciplinary CNS tumor program, including a neuro-oncology director – Dr. Yazmin Odia, a tumor neurosurgeon, and CNS radiation oncologists – including Deputy Director and Chief of Radiation Oncology, Dr. Minesh Mehta. Clinical responsibilities include outpatient clinic, inpatient consult service, plus shared evening and weekend home call. The practice also encompasses an active intrathecal chemotherapy service and an expanding clinical trials portfolio. The physician will work with their own dedicated advanced practitioner and their own medical assistant, along with shared CNS group nurse navigator and inpatient advance practitioner. Clinical trial experience and UCNS certification or eligibility are preferred. The position offers competitive compensation, which includes both quality and productivity bonus opportunities. Anticipated start is approximately July 2019.
MCI, a “next generation” so-called “hybrid” or “clinical-academic” cancer center, is a fully equipped, 440,000 square feet, $430 million outpatient cancer center with 113 patient friendly exam rooms, 60 infusion rooms / 8 infusion beds, and multi-media conference and meeting rooms. MCI has one of the best-equipped radiation oncology divisions in the world with state of the art photon therapy capabilities (including the latest GammaKnife and CyberKnife), and a contiguous 3 gantry pencil beam scanning proton therapy center. The center also houses state of the art imaging that includes PET/CT, 2 Wide Bore CTs, 2 MRIs, ultrasound, and conventional X-ray.
An academic appointment at the Florida International University School of Medicine is possible, and graduate medical education is in active development. MCI is also a member of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) Alliance, a deep and functional alliance that incorporates involvement in MSKCC clinical trials and other meaningful collaborations.

Yazmin Odia, MD, MS, serves as Lead Physician of Medical Neuro-Oncology at Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida since 2016. A Chicago Honor Scholar, she received her bachelor’s of arts and medical degree from the University of Chicago, and her Master of Science in clinical research at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She completed a residency in neurology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, and a clinical and research fellowship in the Neuro-Oncology Branch of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. As a UCNS board-certified Neuro-Oncologist, she was appointed assistant professor of Neurology at Columbia University’s College of Physicians & Surgeons and an assistant attending neurologist at New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York, NY in 2013. Dr. Odia’s honors include Columbia University/New York Presbyterian Hospital’s Stephen Q. Shafer Award for Humanism in Neurology and John Hopkins’ Guy M. McKhann Award for Teaching and Communication Excellence; she was also named a Top Doctor in New York City in 2015 and 2016 and in Miami in 2017.
